Talent or Imagination?

“Is it that we don’t have that type of talent anymore”, my husband asked me? “Why don’t we see artists carving sculpture like they have in Rome?” You look at it and your jaw drops. It is unfathomable that one human being could create a single work on that large a scale with such anatomical precision. When Michelangelo carved, he always carved out of one piece of marble. Our PhD art history guide said that he visualized his subject in a bath of water that was slowly draining. He carved only the parts that would appear over the draining water. Do we have that kind of vision anymore? Is our imagination that big anymore? I hope so!
