Shot Of The Day

River of Lava

Saint Augustine once eloquently stated: “Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering.” It’s so easy to have a sense of wonder when you are in a place like Hawaii. Red rivers of lava flowing through the earth creating real estate by the acre and then destroying it in another sweep. But when the vacation is over, and the view is your child and your husband and your daily life, that’s the wonder that we can’t lose sight of. Sometimes going away brings you back to the wonder. Reminds you of something St. Augustine was trying to communicate. It’s all wonderful because it’s all a gift. Every breath. Every struggle. Every day. Regaining our sense of wonder. Now that’s something worth coming home to. Welcome home.
