Shot Of The Day

Dead Sea, Before and After

Dead Sea, Before and After

This shot of the Dead Sea was taken through a bus window traveling down a highway at a high rate of speed. The image is under exposed but really captured something about the Dead Sea that I wanted to share. The edit took about 12 minutes using Adobe Photoshop CS2 and NIK Filters. First, duplicate the image in CS2 and use the healing brush to clean up the shutter dust [the desert was brutal on my camera!]. Second, erase the land on the top layer. Third, desaturate the land on the bottom layer and adjust levels/curves to correct for brightness. Fourth, apply a cool ice filter to the water, adjust levels/curves for brightness and hyper-saturate for drama. Done! So why did it take 12 minutes? Because I am not including all the things I tried that did not work! So much of art is having the courage to get your hands dirty and try. If I can do this, you can too! Give it a try.
