The Tree of Knowledge

The more I know, the more I realize how much I don’t. “Why does the the street move Mommy? Is the moon following us? Why don’t grown-ups like to get dirty anymore? When are you going to die? Do plants feel pain?” I love the way kids feel so at ease in their state of un-knowing. In accepting that they don’t now a fraction of what is knowable but feeling adventurous in exploring what they can know. One of those moments struck me yesterday when my son turned 12. “Why do I want to laugh and cry at the same time when I sing you Happy Birthday?”
